What Books Land Nepal records about you, why, who else sees it, and how long we keep it.

Cookies

We set only the cookies the shop needs to work. There are no analytics, advertising or third-party cookies on this site.

• A basket cookie keeps your basket, so it survives closing the tab. It lasts 365 days.
• A visitor cookie gives your browser an anonymous id, so we can show you the books you were looking at and suggest others. It lasts 365 days.
• A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in. It is set only when you sign in, and lasts until you sign out or 30 days after your last visit.
• A language cookie remembers the language you chose, when it differs from your browser's. It is cleared when you close the browser.

Signing in also uses a few short-lived cookies that expire within minutes. The basket, visitor and sign-in cookies cannot be read by scripts on the page, and none of these cookies is shared with anyone.

Your browser also keeps two things for itself: the colour scheme you chose, and your last 5 searches, so the search box can offer them again. Both stay in that browser — neither is ever sent to us — and Clear recent searches in the search box removes the searches.

What we record, and why

• The books you open and the searches you run, against that anonymous id, to show you what you were looking at and suggest what to read next. When you sign in, that history is attached to your account.
• Your name, phone number and delivery addresses, to deliver your orders and to put on their invoices. Your phone number is confirmed with a one-time code sent by SMS.
• Your email address, to send you order updates and to let you sign in.
• Your orders, as the record of what you bought.
• Which customer groups your account is in, if staff have placed it in one, so that offers meant for that group reach you. Groups are chosen by staff; nothing you do on the site puts you in one.
• Reviews you write. Once staff approve a review, it is shown on the book's page with your account name.
• Your wishlist, so you can come back to it.
• The device and IP address each sign-in came from, so you can see where you are signed in and end any of those sessions yourself under Account › Security.

We never handle card or wallet details. Online payments by digital wallet or bank transfer are made outside this site; we record only how you paid, how much, and the transaction reference you give us.

How long we keep it

• Views and searches are deleted after 180 days.
• Orders are kept as business and tax records.
• A deactivated account is kept, so that its orders stay complete. Signing in again with a password offers to reactivate it; signing in with a social account reactivates it.

Who else sees it

We share only what each of these needs to do its job:

• Couriers receive the delivery details: the recipient's name, phone numbers and address, any delivery note, and the amount to collect on delivery.
• Our SMS provider receives your phone number, to send your sign-in and verification codes.
• Our email provider receives your email address, to deliver our emails.
• A social sign-in provider takes part only if you choose to sign in with, or link, a social account.

Nobody else. We never sell your information.

Where it is kept, and how it is protected

Your information may be stored or processed on servers outside Nepal. It travels over encrypted connections, and staff see only what their role needs. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.

Your rights

You can:

• Ask what we hold about you, and we will tell you.
• Correct it. Most of it you can change yourself under Account; for anything else, ask us.
• Deactivate your account yourself under Account › Security.
• Ask us to remove your personal details. We do this within 30 days. An order already on its way is delivered first, an approved review stays without your name, and order records we must keep as tax records are kept.
• Complain. Tell us first; if we cannot put it right, you may take it to the relevant authority in Nepal.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects how we use what you have already given us, we will also email everyone who has an account.
